POEMS FOR FATHER'S DAY

A FATHER MEANS...

A Father means so many things...

A understanding heart,

A source of strength and of support

Right from the very start.

A constant readiness to help

In a kind and thoughtful way.

With encouragement and forgiveness

No matter what comes your way.

A special generosity and always affection, too

A Father means so many things

When he's a man like you...

|| Author Unknown

OUR FATHERS

Our fathers toil with hands and heart

To make our lives complete.

They quietly brave the winter cold,

Endure the summer heat.

Our fathers' lives are busy, but

There's always time for us.

They boldly face the ups and downs

And seldom ever fuss.

Our fathers are the greatest dads.

We know you know this, too.

But thank you for the chance to share

Our love for them with you.

|| (c) David A. Olds

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

A Dad is a person

who is loving and kind,

And often he knows

what you have on your mind.

He's someone who listens,

suggests, and defends.

A dad can be one

of your very best friends!

He's proud of your triumphs,

but when things go wrong,

A dad can be patient

and helpful and strong

In all that you do,

a dad's love plays a part.

There's always a place for him

deep in your heart.

And each year that passes,

you're even more glad,

More grateful and proud

just to call him your dad!

Thank you, Dad...

for listening and caring,

for giving and sharing,

but, especially, for just being you!

Happy Father's Day

PERHAPS....

Perhaps we'll never understand each other.

Loving doesn't mean that we agree.

If that were so, then I would say, why bother?

But there are things I know I'll never see.

I'm sure your heart knows what I don't yet know:

The pain of loving a reluctant son;

The anger, coming fast and building slow,

Of being helpless to control someone.

You want only that I grow up right,

But you know what right is, and I still don't.

I have to learn to wield my inner light,

And if I follow yours, well, then I won't.

I'm sorry for the anger in the air;

Though we fight, my love is always there.

A LITTLE GIRL NEEDS DADDY

A little girl needs DaddyFor many, many things:

Like holding her high off the ground

Where the sunlight sings! Like being the deep music

That tells her all is right

When she awakens frantic with

The terrors of the night.

Like being the great mountain
That rises in her heart
And shows her how she might get home
When all else falls apart.

Like giving her the love
That is her sea and air,
So diving deep or soaring high
She'll always find him there.

WHAT MAKES A DAD

God took the strength of a mountain,

The majesty of a tree,

The warmth of a summer sun,

The calm of a quiet sea,

The generous soul of nature,

The comforting arm of night,

The wisdom of the ages,

The power of the eagle's flight,

The joy of a morning in spring,

The faith of a mustard seed,

The patience of eternity,

The depth of a family need,

Then God combined these qualities,

When there was nothing more to add,

He knew His masterpiece was complete,

And so,

He called it...Dad

THE WILL OF GOD

The will of God will never take you,
Where the Grace of God cannot keep you,
Where the Arms of God cannot support you,
Where the Riches of God cannot supply your needs,
Where the Power of God cannot endow you.
The will of God will never take you,
Where the Spirit of God cannot work through you,
Where the Wisdom of God cannot teach you,
Where the Army of God cannot protect you,
Where the Hands of God cannot mold you.
The Will of God will never take you,
Where the Love of God cannot enfold you,
Where the Mercies of God cannot sustain you,
Where the Peace of God cannot calm your fears,
Where the Authority of God cannot overrule for you.
The will of God will never take you,
Where the Comfort of God cannot dry your tears,
Where the Word of God cannot feed you,
Where the Miracles of God cannot be done for you,
Where the Omnipresence of God cannot find you.
Everything happens for a purpose.
We may not see the wisdom of it all
now but trust and believe in
The Lord that everything is for the best.

HAPPINESS ON HOLD

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are.

After that, we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage. We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, are able to go on a nice vacation,or when we retire.

The truth is, there's no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when? Your life will always be filled with challenges. It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway. Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time with...and remember that time waits for no one.

So, stop waiting

--until your car or home is paid off

--until you get a new car or home

--until your kids leave the house

--until you go back to school

--until you lose ten pounds

--until you gain ten pounds

--until you finish school

--until you get a divorce

--until you get married

--until you have kids

--until you retire

--until summer

--until spring

--until winter

--until fall

--until you die

There is no better time than right now to be happy.

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

So, work like you don't need money, Love like you've never been hurt, And dance like no one's watching.

Hope for the best and never forget that anything is possible as long as you remain dedicated to the task.

LOVE LETTER

I thank You, O Lord, for using an insignificant person as me.
I thank You for sharing with me some nuggets of gold from your storehouse of wisdom.
I thank You for lifting me when I would feel down.
I thank You for preparing a table for me in the presence of my enemies.
I thank You that when I make mistakes You give love and understanding to those concerned.
I thank You Lord that when I would be counted out on one side, You raise me up on the other.
I thank You Lord for Your most precious gift, Your son.
His death meant my eternal life, I thank You.
I thank You Lord for Your Holy Spirit.
I thank You Lord for the mountaintop experiences.
I thank You too for the valleys through which I must walk.
I thank and praise You for the sunshine and for the rain.
I thank You for keeping me in Your constant and watchful care.
I thank You Lord for paths unknown that together we must tread.
I know as always by Your loving hand I’ll be led.
I thank You Lord that when my earthly days are done You’ll be waiting at the roads end to welcome me home.
I thank You Lord for temptations overcome – for many tears I have shed.
I thank You for many prayers prayed and answered – some yes, no, and wait.
I thank You for many times picking up the broken pieces of my heart, rubbing them with the Balm of Gilead and putting them together again.
I thank You that though I know not how long or what the future holds for me – You are my future.
My desire is a closer walk with Thee. For this also I thank You.
Amen. Amen.

THANK YOU, LORD!

Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when the alarm rings, thank you Lord, that I can hear. There are many who are deaf.
Even though I keep my eyes closed against the morning light as long as possible, thank you Lord, that I can see. Many are blind.
Even though I huddle in my bed and put off rising, thank you Lord, that I have the strength to rise. There are many who are bedridden.
Even though the first hour of my day is hectic, when socks are lost, toast is burned, tempers are short, my children are so loud, thank you Lord, for my family. There are many who are lonely.
Even though our breakfast table never looks like the pictures in magazines and the menu is at times unbalanced, thank you Lord, for the food we have. There are many who are hungry.
Even though the pile of stinky laundry is high, thank you Lord. We have plenty of nice clothes to wear.
Even though the routine of my job is often monotonous, thank you Lord, for the opportunity to work. There are many who have no job.
Even though I grumble and bemoan my fate from day to day and wish my circumstances were not so modest, Thank you Lord, for life.

PRAYERS

Life without purpose is barren indeed

There can't be a harvest unless you plant seed

There can't be attainment unless there's a goal

And man's but a robot unless there's a soul.

If we send no ships out, no ships will come in,

And unless there's a contest, nobody can win.

For games can't be won unless they are played,

And prayers can't be answered unless they are prayed.

So whatever is wrong with your life today

You'll find a solution if you kneel down and pray.

Not just for pleasure, enjoyment and health,

Not just for honors and prestige and wealth.

But pray for a purpose to make life worth living

And pray for the joy of unselfish giving.

For great is your gladness and rich your reward,

When you make your life's purpose the choice of the Lord.

Amen!

THE HIDING PLACE

Have you ever wished, deep down inside

That you could find a place to hide?

To hide from folks who come your way

With endless problems day by day?

To hide from all that lies ahead,

The unseen foes and griefs you dread?

To flee decisions you must make,

Avoid the path that you must take?

To run away and find a spot

Where even self can be forgot?

Earth has no place as such you seek --

No place of refuge for the weak;

For ev'ry shelter here on earth

Soon proves to be of little worth

And we are left alone to face

The woes that plague the human race.

But wait! The Rock of Ages -- He still stands,

A refuge from all life's demands;

A place to hide -- to weep -- to rest;

A place to hover and be blest.

For Jesus is that Rock Who stands

Holding forth His nail pierced hands --

A covert from the storm is He,

Saying, "Come, and hide in Me."

LOOK WELL TO THIS DAY

Look well to this day,
For it and it alone is life.
In its brief course
Lie all the essence of your existence:

          The glory of growth
          The satisfaction of achievement
          The splendor of beauty

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is but a vision.
But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Therefore look well to this day!

A BLESSING OF LOVE

May the blessings of divine love be upon the earth as a being,

And upon all those associated with it, without exclusion,

So that the progress of the earth and those associated with it

Toward their spiritual potential might be facilitated,

And the transformation of the earth might thereby be expedited,

From a sphere beset by so much fear and conflict

To one where love and harmony might prevail as the basis of social interaction,

And where compassion and concern for the common good might flourish.
And further, that all plans, designs and conspiracies,

By any individuals or groups whatsoever,

for the conquest or domination of the earth and those that live upon it,

In violation of universal law or in violation of the best interests of all who are concerned,

Might fail and come to naught, or, by the grace of God,

Be turned to the service of the good of all concerned.
And further, that all secret tyrannies affecting the earth,

Perpetrated by any individuals or groups,

Which exercise control or manipulation upon humankind,

Or which perpetrate oppression upon humankind,

In violation of universal law, the best interests of all concerned, or the of freedom of choice,

Might come to light

So that knowledge of the truth of these matters

Might enable humanity's freedom from such oppression.
And further, that the success of all endeavors

In pursuit of the common good of all humanity

And the best interests of the earth and those associated with it,

Might be facilitated.
And further, that those who pursue the good of all concerned

Might be strengthened to withstand

Any opposition to their efforts

From those who oppose the good of all.
Let these things be made so only in accord

With the wisdom and judgment of the Supreme Being,

And with universal law and the best interests of all concerned.

And lastly, if it is beneficial to all concerned

That this blessing be shared with others,

Then let the Holy Spirit guide its dissemination.
So be it.

YOUR 12 MAGNIFICENT GIFTS

Life is the only chance you get,
how you live it, what you take from it,
how much you give back,
a joy and a heartbreak,
doing the best with what you have,
loving with all of your heart,
treating all forms of it with respect,
and a wondrous beautiful mystery || C.Yost

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.

To realize the value of one year, ask a student who failed a grade.
To realize the value of one month, ask a mother who gave birth to a
pre-mature baby.
To realize the value of one week, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.
To realize the value of one day, ask a daily wage laborer with kids to feed.
To realize the value of one hour, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.
To realize the value of one minute, ask a person who missed the train.
To realize the value of one second, ask a person who just avoided an accident.
To realize the value of one milli-second, ask the person who won a
silver medal in the Olympics.
Treasure every moment that you have! And treasure it more because you
shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time.
And remember that time waits for no one.
Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow a mystery.
Today is a gift.
That's why it's called the present!

At the wondrous moment you were born, as you took your first breath, a great celebration was held in the heavens and twelve magnificent gifts were granted to you.

The first gift is STRENGTH. May you remember to call upon it whenever you need it.

The second gift is BEAUTY. May your deeds reflect its depth.

The third gift is COURAGE. May you speak and act with confidence and use courage to follow your own path.

The fourth gift is COMPASSION. May you be gentle with yourself and others. May you forgive those who hurt you and yourself when you make mistakes.

The fifth gift is HOPE. Through each passage and season, may you trust the goodness of life.

The sixth gift is JOY. May it keep your heart open and filled with light.

The seventh gift is TALENT. May you discover your own special abilities and contribute them toward a better world.

The eighth gift is IMAGINATION. May it nourish your visions and dreams.

The ninth gift is REVERENCE. May you appreciate the wonder that you are and the miracle of all creation.

The tenth gift is WISDOM. Guiding your way, wisdom will lead you through knowledge to understanding. May you hear its soft voice.

The eleventh gift is LOVE. It will grow each time you give it away.

The twelfth gift is FAITH. May you always believe.

I ASKED GOD TO BLESS YOU

I got down on my knees,
And said a prayer for you today.
I asked for God to bless you,
And next to you he’d stay.

I asked that when you needed him,
That by your side he’d stand.
And when you’re feeling lonely,
That He would hold your hand.

I asked that God would stand by you,
And give you so much peace.
And that the love you felt from him,
That it would never cease.

I asked that you will always,
Feel his loving touch.
For He is Lord and savior,
And He loves you very much.

I know that you’re a child of His,
For I have watched you grow.
It shows when I see your face,
For it has that special glow.

So as I’m on my knees,
And saying a prayer for you.
I’m asking God to bless and keep you,
All of your days through.

THE COURAGE TO GO ON

Dear God,

When I am lonely and,

Perhaps I feel despair.

Let not my ailing heart forget,

That YOU hear every prayer...

Remind me that no matter what,

I do or fail to do,

There still is hope for as long

As I have FAITH in YOU...

Let not my eyes be blinded by

Some folly I commit.

But help me to regret my wrong,

And to make up for it...

Inspire me to put my fears,

Upon a hidden shelf,

And in the future never to

Be sorry for myself.

Give me the restful sleep I need,

Before another dawn,

And bless me in the morning with

The Courage To Go On..

I MAY NEVER SEE TOMORROW

I may never see tomorrow;

there's no written guarantee

And things that happened yesterday

belong to history.

I cannot predict the future,

I cannot change the past,

I have just the present moments,

I must treat it as my last.
I must use this moment wisely

for it soon will pass away,

and be lost forever,

as part of yesterday.

I must exercise compassion,

help the fallen to their feet,

Be a friend unto the friendless,

make an empty life complete.
The unkind things I do today

may never be undone,

And friendships that I fail to win

may nevermore be won.

I may not have another chance

on bended knees to pray,

and I thank God

with a humble heart

for giving me this day.

CHANGING THE WORLD

When I was a young man,

I wanted to change the world.

I found it was difficult to change the world,

so I tried to change my nation.

When I found I couldn't change the nation,

I began to focus on my town.

I couldn't change the town

and as an older man,

I tried to change my family.

Now, as an old man,

I realize the only thing I can change is myself,

and suddenly

I realize that if long ago I had changed myself,

I could have made an impact on my family.

My family and I could have

made an impact on our town.

Their impact could have changed the nation

and I could indeed have changed the world.

TRAVELING ON YOUR KNEES

Last night I took a journey

To a land across the seas.

I didn't go by ship or plane

I traveled on my knees.
I saw so many people there

In bondage to their sin,

And Jesus told me I should go,

That there were souls to win.
But I said "Jesus, I can't go

To lands across the seas."

He answered quickly, "Yes, you can

By traveling on your knees."
He said, "You pray, I'll meet the need.

You call, and I will hear.

It's up to you to be concerned

For lost souls far and near."
And so I did; knelt in prayer,

Gave up some hours of ease,

And with the Savior by my side,

I traveled on my knees.
As I prayed on, I saw souls saved

And twisted persons healed,

I saw God's workers strength renewed

While laboring in the field.
I said, "Yes Lord, I'll take the job.

Your heart I want to please.

I'll heed Your call and swiftly go

By traveling on my knees."

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FLOWER

The park bench was deserted as I sat down to read.

Beneath the long, straggly branches of an old willow tree.

Disillusioned by life with good reason to frown,

For the world was intent on dragging me down.

And if that weren't enough to ruin my day,

A young boy out of breath approached me, all tired from play.

He stood right before me with his head tilted down

And said with great excitement, "Look what I found!"

In his hand was a flower, and what a pitiful sight,

With its petals all worn - not enough rain, or too little light.

Wanting him to take his dead flower and go off to play,

I faked a small smile and then shifted away.

But instead of retreating he sat next to my side

And placed the flower to his nose

And declared with overacted surprise,

"It sure smells pretty and it's beautiful, too.

That's why I picked it; here, it's for you."

The weed before me was dying or dead.

Not vibrant of colors: orange, yellow or red.

But I knew I must take it, or he might never leave.

So I reached for the flower, and replied, "Just what I need."

But instead of him placing the flower in my hand,

He held it mid-air without reason or plan.

It was then that I noticed for the very first time
That weed-toting boy could not see: he was blind.

I heard my voice quiver; tears shone in the sun

As I thanked him for picking the very best one.

You're welcome," he smiled, and then ran off to play,

Unaware of the impact he'd had on my day.

I sat there and wondered how he managed to see

A self-pitying woman beneath an old willow tree.

How did he know of my self-indulged plight?

Perhaps from his heart, he'd been blessed with true sight.

Through the eyes of a blind child, at last I could see

The problem was not with the world; the problem was me.

And for all of those times I myself had been blind,

I vowed to see the beauty in life,

And appreciate every second that's mine.

And then I held that wilted flower up to my nose

And breathed in the fragrance of a beautiful rose

And smiled as I watched that young boy,

Another weed in his hand,

About to change the life of an unsuspecting old man.

YOU ARE SO BLESSED

If you have never experienced

the danger of battle,

the loneliness of imprisonment,

the agony of torture or

the pangs of starvation,

you are ahead of 20 million people

around the world.

If you have food in your refrigerator,

clothes on your back, a roof over

your head and a place to sleep,

you are richer than 75% of this world.

If you have money in the bank,

in your wallet, and spare change

in a dish someplace, you are among

the top 8% of the world's wealthy.

If you hold up your head with a smile

on your face and are truly thankful,

you are blessed because the majority can,

but most do not.

If you can read this message,

you are more blessed than over

two billion people in the world

that cannot read anything at all.

You are so blessed in ways

you may never even know.
